What is Strength at Home Couples?

Developed at VA by Dr. Casey Taft and his collaborators, to help military couples through the unique challenges of military life.

The classes are once a week, for eight weeks free to eligible military couples.

Strength at Home Couples classes are led by our team of licensed therapists who have extensive experience working with military families and couples. Some of our therapists are even Veterans themselves.

Amanda Phillips, LICSW-S

Amanda Phillips, LICSW-S

Amanda Phillips, LICSW-S, has over 25 years of experience supporting individuals, couples, families, Veterans, and first responders. She specializes in complex trauma and relationship violence and has trained hundreds of professionals nationwide in trauma-informed care. In her private practice, Amanda helps clients move past what keeps them stuck and toward lasting healing.

Andrea Cline, LCSW

Andrea Cline, LCSW, has extensive experience working with Veterans and military families and is herself a military spouse. She specializes in supporting clients with trauma histories, including anxiety, depression, and PTSD, and has worked with families of children with special needs. Andrea is passionate about helping individuals and families navigate life transitions and change.  It is Andrea’s goal to assist individuals and families through transitions and life changes.

Erik Curl, LCSW/LICSW

Erik Curl, LCSW/LICSW is a therapist who loves the work. One of his passions in life is helping others through difficult times. This passion is born out of his own lived experience as a son, husband, father, Veteran, and man of faith "each having its own ups and downs" as he puts it. He has spent the last 10+ years providing trauma-informed, person-centered mental health care to Veterans and their families through the VA and in his own private practice.

Vanessa Trupiano, LCSW

Vanessa Trupiano, LCSW

Vanessa Trupiano, LCSW is one of our expert regional trainers for the Strength at Home Veterans program across the VA nationwide. She has been in the U.S. Army Reserve for 20+ years and has been deployed twice. She has experience in helping clients with cope with addictions, trauma and abuse, & motivation, self-esteem, and confidence. She has experience offering the Strength at Home Couples program to military couples through VA.

One of these therapists will be your Strength at Home Couples class leader. Class leaders do not report to your chain of command or DoD leadership. The classes are completely confidential

Register with our team

Once we receive your information, someone from our team will reach to you over email and by phone to discuss options and get you registered. You will get to discuss any questions or concerns you have with our team directly before you decide to register. When you register, we will also need your partner's name, phone number, and email. Please be sure to let them know we will be reaching out.

Attend the classes

Once both you and your partner are registered, our team will work with you to get you into one of our upcoming classes as soon as possible! The experienced therapist who will be leading your Strength at Home Couples class will reach out to you to schedule an intake and start class.
